Grameena Angad’s new Ugadi collection showcases hand-woven, cotton saris from Udupi

Grameena Angadi celebrates Ugadi with Udupi hand-woven saris.

These saris which were hugely admired by the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and now by Sonia Gandhi is part of a dwindling tradition.

At one point, there used to be more than 800 looms weaving these saris, where as there are only 32 now. Made from pure, light cotton, these saris are made by the 75-year-old weaver’s co-operative in Udupi.
