l Born November 25, 1953 at Thrikkur, Thrissur district, Kuttan Marar was brought up at Peruvanam, widely considered the heartland of percussion, to Peruvanam Appu Marar and Gowri Marassiar.
l His father was his first guru. Later he learned from Kumarapuram Appu Marar and Sreenarayanapuram Appu Marar.
l Studied at CNN High School, Cherpu, where he later worked as non-teaching staff for 35 years.
l He leads the melam in over 84 temples in the State and conducts over 300 performances, on an average, every year.
l A documentary film, Pranathi , made on him has won wide acclaim.
l He has performed at the India Festival in USSR, in Paris, at the Republic Day parade and almost all the Gulf countries.
