Some products to keep your skin safe in the sunshine

Lucky as we are to live in the sunny hemisphere, with plenty of free vitamin D always available, there are lots of less welcome gifts the summer sun brings for the skin. And with the tap spewing out boiling water of a sunny afternoon, just washing your face is not always the way to relief. But the market is awash with products to care for your skin this summer.

Oriflame brings its Pure Nature Range with three products aimed at complete skin care, all claimed to contain 100 per cent hazelnut extracts and goji berry. While the hazelnut extracts provide astringent benefits and moisturise the skin, the goji berry extracts are supposed to protect against DNA damage. There is a Pure Nature Organic Hazelnut and Goji Berry Protecting 2-in-1 Cleanser designed for very dry skin, priced at Rs.298. Then there is a Protecting Lip Balm available in light pink with a sweet flavour for Rs.169. And lastly, a Protecting Face Cream, meant for both day and night, with intensely hydrating properties for all skin types, priced Rs.349. To get this collection, contact your nearest Oriflame consultant or sms Oriflame to 59994. Another exclusive range is Avon Sun, formulated with Derma UV plus Complex. Avon Sun is available in three different Sun Protection Factors: SPF 15 and 20, priced at Rs.215, and SPF 40 at Rs.249. Available exclusively through your personal Avon Representative, who can be located by calling the Avon toll free number 1800-102-2866.

But if life is too busy for such elite shopping, you can always walk into a neighbourhood store for Lakme's new sunscreen with an SPF factor of 15, 20 and 30. The company gets straight to the point, naming it the Sun Expert Anti Darkening Sunscreen. It claims to offer 97 per cent protection, saving you from both UVA and UVB rays. Meanwhile, Eminence too helps you turn on the heat with its Summer Lovin' Collection. This includes the Tropical Vanilla Sun Cream SPF 32 which claims to increase moisture level in your skin by 250 per cent in a week, Tropical Vanilla Body SPF 32, Aloe Mint Hydrating Cream Gel, Aloe Mint Hydrating Cream Gel, Hibiscus Calendula Recovery Masque, Tomato Sun Cream SPF 16 and Eminence Sun Defense Minerals SPF 30. The range is available at high-end spas and salons in the city (including branches of Affinity, Madonna, VLCC- Day Spa, Salon 52, Khoobsurat, Geetanjali and Nirvana). Then there is IPSA Labs' Eraser with its herby sun screen lotion. This non-greasy cream has a simple message for the season: ‘Don't scream, use sun screen'.
