Palash Sen on his music, his band and future projectsA Hindi rock musician and a doctor Palash Sen is all that and more. The lead singer of the popular band, Euphoria, talks about his past, present and future in an interview. Excerpts:Let's talk about your last album, Mehfuz. How did the concept originate? Most of the music is dedicated to my father, who passed away 15 years ago. We always talk about people splitting up whether two lovers or two people who know each other moving apart something, however, remains in the heart, whether there are emotions or love. What remains is Mehfuz. Euphoria is known for not sticking to any particular style of music. In Mehfuz, you mixed jazz, rock and ghazals. That's me. I like to experiment. I have heard many styles of music and like to do something that is different, is fun, and which I would like to listen to. I make music for myself. Euphoria started off as an English rock band. Why the shift to Hindi? The transition was important. It was the only way I could get across to people. Till the time I was doing English music I only had an image but not an identity. Euphoria is a medical term, I heard that you love to be called a doctor and you still see a few patients. How difficult was it for you to quit medicine full time?I have not quit medicine. I have a clinic in my basement where I still see patients. But yes, I don't give the same amount of time I used to give. Once this entire showbiz and entertainment finishes, I will still be a doctor. How was your acting experience in "Filhaal"? Any plans to act in more films? It was nice with tall heroines! To do films, one has to be in Mumbai and stay there. You can't do the music and concerts simultaneously while shooting for films. You also have done many concerts worldwide. What is your opinion about the crowds abroad? When we played for the United Nations, we got a predominantly American crowd. But, in most of the shows, we get a primarily Indian crowd and that cannot be helped. There is a lot of pride in the music that we do for Indians. Name one person you admire in the music industry.Shankar Mahadevan. He is a computer engineer, fantastic singer and superb composer. For me, he is the man.You have just finished a song for Sanjay Gupta at Lokhandwala...I cannot say much about the song because that is supposed to be a secret. But the song was shot at Lokhandwala and I was part of the sound track. We are making a music video, which is going to feature Euphoria and actors such as Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Vivek Oberoi and Sanjay Dutt.
