EATING OUT Ambience enhances the taste of food at The Lodhi hotel's On The Waterfront restaurant
Certain places in Delhi have their own charm and can be visited in any weather. One such restaurant is On The Waterfront (OTW) at The Lodhi hotel. The serene ambience scores over food at the beautiful OTW The seating arrangement is diverse, but the best place to sit lies in the centre of the hotel, the gorgeous water front with its private table. As usual it was booked on my latest visit too. The menu offers a number of refined and delectable dishes to choose from three cuisines —European, Oriental and Indian.
I started with a sweet corn crab meat soup. Presented beautifully in a covered ceramic bowl, soup was flavourful and very well seasoned. The texture of the soup was thick and smooth, due to the crab meat. Even the sweetness of corns was apt. I followed it up with a salad of raw papaya, shrimp tempura with honey dressing. Refreshing and sweet, the salad had a nice crunch of raw papaya. Shrimps were crisp and had that light golden colour of tempura batter.
As one of my friends had suggested that I try their dim sums, I asked the chef to prepare some for me. And I must say the dim sums were one of the best I had in recent times. Be it the texture of the dough or the minced stuffing, everything was done to perfection. Skipping their robata and sushis, I opted for some of their Indian starters. Not an extensive list but good one, off which I selected five options. Tawa gosht gilawat, basically a galauti served on ulta tawa paratha, was decent. It could have been more aromatic.
But the bhatti ki seekh was a total disasppointment. Seekh kababs were presented on satay sticks and almost orange in colour. Even in texture they were very dry. On the other hand pathar tulsi murgh was as delicious as one could imagine a tikka to be. The tulsi flavor just took the delicacy to the next level. In mains badi mirch gosht with a lacha paratha was worth a try. The selection and cut of mutton pieces was noteworthy. Nihari gosht seemed like a very well made rogan josh.
The best was reserved for the end. OTW has fifteen odd dessert variants, and their chocolate trio cake was just awesome.
