Of handicrafts and handlooms from Orissa

Jagdamba Handlooms is organising an Orissa Art and Crafts Fair at Sri Murugan Kalyana Mandapam, 15, 100 ft bye-pass road, Gangai Road, Velacherry from today till October 20, 9.30 a.m. to 9.30 p.m. Traditional and contemporary handicrafts and handlooms will be on display - saris and dress materials, paintings, wall hangings, banjara bags, ghagra cholis from Rajasthan, Pochampalli bedsheets, Chennapatna wooden toys and brass and terracotta artefacts.Pure silk and double ikkat saris from Sambhalpur are an attraction. One can check out the Ikkat salwar kameez, dupattas and yardage embellished with mirror work, jari work and phulkari embroidery. Applique work, a distinct craft of Orissa, adds vibrancy to the display. One can choose from umbrellas, lamp shades and torans. Lacquer bangles from Cuttack, sculpted sandstone icons and carvings from Konarak and silver jewellery studded with semi-precious stones are also on display. For the festive season, a 10 per cent discount on handicrafts and 20 per cent on handlooms will be offered.
