Miss India World Pooja Chopra's success is balm for past wounds
So what's common between gold andPooja Chopra - Miss India World2009? "Like gold, which is melted andhammered to gain lustre, I have alsoundergone pain and struggle to reachwhere I have today," says Pooja.
The girl, who has her eyes set on theMiss World contest 2009, is not lookingat tinseltown as her next destination.
She wants to concentrate on theimmediate task at hand.
"I believe in setting short-termgoals, and presently my only goal isthe Miss World contest. At the time ofthe Miss India pageant, I was participatingonly for my family and myself,but this time, I have a greater responsibilityas I represent the country,"says Pooja.
Her success, she believes, is God'sway of compensating her motherNeera Chopra for the pain andagony she has been through.
"I am not only turning mydreams into reality but also mymother's, which were left shattered23 years ago when I was born. Myfather refused to accept my motherwith another girl child," she says.Pooja has made her mother proudof the decision that she took yearsago.ANU SHARMA
