Optra DieselPowered by essentially the same diesel as the Captiva SUV, the Optra may get a real `boost'. This 2000cc engine however may be used in milder state of tune, which will allow it to deliver fuel economy and sufficient power. A full fledged common rail engine, the motor may come with a simpler non variable nozzle turbo that will cut costs further.
Although the GM-FIAT joint venture deal is off, the deal that involves Chevy using Fiat motors still stands, which means the superlative 1.3 Multijet. This will give the Aveo a good leg up on the Fiesta and make it competitive, with the new Hyundai Verna diesel as well.
New Siena/ Petra
With a similar looking nose section, but with a freshly shaped, squarer looking boot, the Palio saloon looks new. Provided Fiat gets the price right, the 1.3 Multijet should prove very capable.
New face, new headlights, new fresh interior and new tail lights along with the new diesel will inject new life into the Palio which is also being built at a new plant at Ranjangaon, in Maharashtra. The double barrel headlights, organically shaped headlight cluster and new bumper give the car an all-new look and once the car has its 1.3 Multijet under the hood, there'll be nothing stopping it. A new 1.4 petrol motor is also on the cards.
Fiesta Diesel 1.6
The Fiesta's high-tech diesel is super efficient and very popular too. Ford still wants to provide another option, a 1.6 that'll put out an impressive 113 bhp as against the current motor's 68 bhp. Also available mated to a CVT auto box in some markets, this transmission would give the Fiesta a vital advantage if Ford get it here. With the Hyundai Verna having hit our roads recently, the competition just got stiffer.
Scorpio 2.2 CRDe (Eagle)
Mahindra is working on an all-aluminium, 2200cc common rail diesel motor which will replace the heavy 2.5 diesel currently used in the Scorpio. The motor is being tested in the chassis of the Scorpio, and though still in nascence, sources speak highly of it. Power output is likely to be around 140 bhp and we hope the fidgety ride and handling of the Scorpio will improve due to the significant reduction in engine weight.
The new Zen in India is the old MR Wagon from Japan. The new Zen is based on the same platform as the Alto and the Wagon R, and even the engine will be borrowed from the Wagon R. And since the Old MR Wagon dies are available for cheap, the New Zen should be attractively priced when it hits showrooms in a while. Maruti will have to price it right to succeed - but the question is this - will Indians be willing to buy a car that's been retired from the production line in Japan?
Indigo LWB Dicor
Big cars are big on comfort than smaller ones. So Tata will give you more legroom in their soon to be launched long wheelbase Indigo. The idea is a luxury edition of the Indigo, replete with leather interiors, rear aircon vents, DVD players in the headrests etc. There are even airline seat like fold out table tops. The Indigo will be launched soon where the 16 valve twin cam motor will put out an impressive 100 bhp.
Skoda's boldly styled Roomster is a departure from the basic van-like proportions of an MPV. For India, Skoda will certainly choose the 1.9 TDi motor, that diesel lovers are smitten by. Performance is similar to that of the Octavia. For the wheelbase, the cabin is really airy, and the quality and design of the interiors appealing.
Ever wondered what kind of effect Ford were after with their Endeavour? Just look at the new Ranger, a vehicle it shares most of its parts with. It's imposing presence and bold square lines make this a middle of the road SUV, traditional in every sense. Technology, comfort and fit and finish will be much higher. It will finally get an all new common rail motor, the 2.5 TD, and the 143bhp and 33kgm of torque should go a long way in providing a much needed power boost with the same high levels of ride and handling.
