Pancham Nishad, an organisation dedicated to promoting, popularising and propagating Indian classical music, has organised an event called Kalyan Rang at Chowdiah Memorial on January 28 and 29 at 6.30 p.m. The programme, sponsored by Tata and MetroPlus, is a concept event, with all the artistes performing only those melodies based on the Kalyan That, such as Bhoop, Yaman, Kedar, Kamod, Hamir, and Shuddha Kalyan among others. On January 28, the festival commences with a vocal recital by Delhi-based Madhu Mudgal a disciple of the legendary vocalist Pandit Kumar Gndharva, followed by Veena Sahasrabuddhe, a veteran vocalist of the Gwalior Gharana. The second day begins with Pandit Satish Vyas, son of C.R. Vyas and a student of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, and concludes with a performance by Kolkata-based sitar maestro Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee. While the first day features vocal performances, the second day concentrates on instruments.Pancham Nishad has in the past organised many conceptual events such as Todi Mahotsav, Midnight Melodies, Grishma Ritu Sangeet, and Spiritual Morning.
