Chimichanga

Adeep-fried burrito popular in south western U.S. cuisine, Chimichanga is prepared by filling a flour tortilla with rice, cheese and shredded chicken which is folded into a triangle and fried. It is served with salsa, sour cream or cheese. According to one theory, the founder of a Tex-Mex restaurant accidentally dropped a pastry into the deep fat fryer in 1922. She immediately uttered a Spanish curse-word beginning “chi...” but quickly stopped herself and instead exclaimed chimichanga, a Spanish equivalent of thingamajig.
