EATING OUT A new food joint in the city

Take your pick At Café Blitzz
Take your pick At Café Blitzz

Y our food haunt just got a new address — Café Blitzz, Lakeview Road, Nungambakkam. What first strikes you the most is its unconventional set-up. The quaint Mediterranean design with a touch of the contemporary seems just perfect for a lazy chat with friends or a day out with the family.

Well-spaced with five theme-based rooms — Glass Flow, King Lounge, Blue, Blitzz Balcony, and Arabian Lounge, the café also has a roof-top option, and a restaurant, Cilantro.

A glance at the menu reveals an interesting variety of coffee, coolers, shakes and starters. I try the Blitzz cranberry lemonade (a wee too concentrated), and the delicious crepenities (stuffed with béchamel sauce, vegetables, coated with batter and deep fried). The main course (including rice dishes) is essentially Arabic.

Variety fare

There are pastas, sandwiches, burgers and focaccia (the bread's said to be home-made) to choose from. Served with sour cream and Mexican sauce, quesadillas come in such variety that they are listed under a separate column! However, a similar assortment is amiss in sea food.

Blitzz's proficiency, however, lies in its desserts. From brownies and cupcakes to cheese cakes and tiramisu, from pana cotta and burnt cream to crepes layered with Nutella, strawberry and maple syrup, Blitzz seems a haven for those with a sweet tooth. The Crunchy Chocolate Shake comes with a warning — 600 calories! But, try Charlotte, a moulded dessert of French origin, which is as good as it gets.

While the East Coast Road and Anna Nagar branches have a ‘sports' appeal, what with the board games (there are hookahs, too), the Lakeview Road branch seems more like a place for the family. Of course, there's no alcohol; there's cocktails and a smoking section, though. The café is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
