‘Celebrations for Women' festival begins on March 8
This Women's Day (March 8), Alliance Française de Trivandrum in association with the Embassy of France in India and Kerala Chalachitra Academy kicks off a series of events celebrating womanhood titled ‘Celebrations for Women.'
The fete begins on March 8 with an exhibition of paintings by Pragati Chattopadhyay at the Art Gallery, Alliance Francaise de Trivandrum. It will be inaugurated by actor-director Madhupal. Pragati's paintings focus on ‘woman in her soft, sombre and ambiguous moods.'
The highlight of the fete is the ‘Asian Women's Film Festival' at Kalabhavan Theatre on March 13 and 14. More than 20 documentary films directed by women will be showcased at the fete, including the works of Meena Nanji, Paromita Vohra, Priyanka Chhabra and Kavitha Pai.
There will also be a special session for the new generation of Malayali filmmakers such as Sangeetha, Sreebala K. Menon and Geethu Mohandas.
The audience will get an opportunity to interact with the filmmakers in an open forum that will be moderated by Beena Paul Venugopal.
Well-known French writer Dominique Hoeltgen and filmmakers Anjali Menon, J. Geetha, Ahsam and Asha Joseph will also participate in the event. Entry is free.
