Boon and bane

print   ·   T  T

Kids these days are increasingly using the new technology in their schools, libraries, homes and communities. By punching the keyboard, one can literally access the world. But the access can also pose hazards. It is wise to take an active role in protecting your kids from internet predators. To do that, parents should become computer literate and learn how to block objectionable material. Keep the computer in a common area, not in individual bedrooms, where you can watch and monitor its use. Share an email account with your child so you can monitor messages. Bookmark kids’ favorite sties for easy access. Spend time online together to teach your kids appropriate online behaviour. Forbid your child from entering private chat rooms; The cyber media is like a fire, we can use it both ways. It is not wise to say that the media is bad and spoiling kids. It is a boon for the younger generation and it is the role of the parents to guide them how to handle internet properly.
