It's time again for the FILCA International Film Festival, which begins on May 7 at the Kalabhavan Theatre. The opening film is the Hindi film Phir Kabhi by V.K. Prakash at 6.30 p.m.
Japan and Iran are the countries in focus. The Japanese package includes films such as Kwaidan by Masaki Kobiyashi and Double Suicide by Masahiro Shinoda. The Iranian package has, among others, Bahman Gohbadi's Turtles can fly too and Mohammad Ahmadi's The Lost Truth. Malayalam cinema is represented with films such as Kesu by Sivan, Madhyavenal by Madhu Kaithapuram and Ritu by Shayamaprasad. World cinema package has critically-acclaimed films such as the classic thriller The Shawshank Redemption by Frank Darabont and Julie & Julia by Nora Ephron – the film that earned an Oscar nomination for Meryl Streep this year.
Also watch out for the David Lean retrospective with films such as Bridge on the River Kwai, Dr. Zhivago and Lawrence of Arabia. The screenings start at 9 a.m. and the fete concludes on May 13. Contact: firstname.lastname@example.org.
