Last week, at Chennai's Prasad Studio, the big budget Malayalam historical "Pazhassi Raja" was launched with a lot of fanfare by producer Gokulam Gopalan. The film is written by M. T. Vasudevan Nair, one of the greatest writers in Malayalam, and directed by veteran Hariharan. At the launch, Nair said he had done a lot of research on Pazhassi Raja, the "first man from Malabar who revolted against the British rule in India in 1797 and gave them a torrid time, till he was killed in the forests of Wayanad in 1805." Mammootty plays the title role, while Sarath Kumar plays his trusted Commander-in-Chief. This big budget extravaganza will have an array of stars, including a leading lady from Bollywood. The music is by Ilaiyaraja and the cinematography by Venu. The period film will start rolling from April 18 at the Kannur Fort.SREEDHAR PILLAI
