Shubi Mehta on life after the successful MTV Roadies reality show

Not many girls here are seriously considering an emcee's job Shubi Shubi Mehta's claim to fame is as an adventurous roadster finalist on the MTV Roadies reality show on television. Else for this "absolutely careless and carefree" Arian, her second home is the stage. "Mike or no mike, shoes or no shoes, group or no group, once on stage, I connect with people better." Well, that explains the dissonance that she encountered offstage during a 40-day biking show on TV. "We were not there to make friends as many would like to claim. We were there to play a game." Tracked by cameras 24/7, all the "fights, bickering, crying and plotting that you saw on TV wasn't faked. It was 100 per cent as original as you can get. That's why it had the highest TRP ratings for a reality show." Cut off from the world for a month and more, and traversing the roads from the desert town of Jaisalmer to the rough terrains of Leh was indeed an exhilarating experience for Shubi who's a trained classical and salsa dancer. Her stint with competitions on the tube doesn't end here. She also took part in "Dance Dance" on Sony TV and was selected as a VJ for SS Music. Though game for most things in life she actually was reluctant to take up the Roadies trek but for "my brother's and mom's insistence I finally relented and thanks to them I can command a wider audience now that I am a known face on TV." Losing out at the finals though isn't the end of the road for her. Her sights are now set on stamping her presence more on the small screen. But for now, she is basking in her 'now here gone tomorrow' glory of being a woman finalist in the Roadies. But she waives off the 'woman' emphasis. "At the final, there were two girls and one guy and the round was won by a girl. The girls were as adept as the guys at manoeuvring the rough terrains on a 250cc bike."As for her job, she says, "I take compering seriously. A good compere is one who remains a bag full of surprises." RAKHEE MOHAN
