A t the recently-held 69th Amateur Rowing Association of the East (ARAE) Rowing regatta held at Bolgoda Lake, Sri Lanka, The Rowing Centre (TRC) Club, Chennai, won India's lone gold in the event.

TRC Club is a fledgling rowing centre at Koovathur, past Mamallapuram. The ARAE is the association governing regattas among regional rowing clubs in the South and South East Asia, and the regatta is held annually in one of the member clubs' venue.

This year's event, held from February 3 to 5, saw Rohit Ravindra and Tushar Bansal representing TRC Club win the coveted Venables Bowl Trophy for the men's coxless pairs event.

In a field consisting of over 150 participants, Rohit and Tushar (TRC) beat a challenge from the Calcutta University Rowing Club (CURC) in a four-lane race to win the finals. “It was our training on the choppy waters of Kovathoor that enabled us to handle the rough water and weather conditions at the Bolgoda lake,” said Tushar.

The regatta saw the participation of teams from Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Singapore, the Philippines and the UAE.

The Colombo Rowing Club won the overall trophies in both the men and women's categories in the ARAE events.
