Designers Kapil and Monika unveil their wedding collection

O stentatiousness and Indian weddings go hand in hand. Well-heeled Hyderabadis are no different. Realising this, designers Kapil and Monika showcased their latest collection for the wedding season at Vivaha 2009. The Delhi-based couple who entered the business of fashion three years ago look forward to retailing their collections in Hyderabad soon. “Participating in this exhibition helped us understand the buying pattern of Hyderabadis,” says Monika. The colour palette looks beyond the regular deep reds and maroons. “Purple, pinks, greens and beiges are in this season,” she says. There's something to please every sensibility. The dressy saris and lehengas in flowy fabrics are embellished with Swarovski crystals and contemporary embroidery, designed to make the bride stand apart from the crowd. Saris and lehengas apart, there are cocktail dresses and evening gowns that can be worn for wedding pre-events and the forthcoming New Year party season as well. The evening gowns make clever use of velvet to give that dressy feeling without being over the top.

Kapil Arora and Monika have two stores in Delhi. That their collections target the niche segment is obvious going by the price tags. A dressy lehenga displayed at the exhibition cost a neat Rs. 4,25,000. Recession, say Kapil and Monika, did not dent the enthusiasm of their clients. “We exhibited our collections in Dubai and Oman too and we did good business,” adds Monika.
