S hruti is a software engineer by profession and a writer by passion. “I wrote a lot as a child, but I was too shy to show it to anyone. Six years ago I began writing a personal blog, nychthemeron.blogspot.com, in which I write about everyday interesting situations.”

To be a good writer, Shruti contends, reading is important. “I'm a reader, first. Every reader, at some level, can also express themselves. A writer needs to be observant and possess the ability to write precisely and in a way that is interesting for people to read.”

Shruti's creativity is not only expressed in writing but also in embroidery. The birth of her daughter changed her life in more ways than one. “I found time to write. I wrote a children's story for the first time in my life! And I spend time creating craft work with my daughter, which is the best way to interact with a child.”

The ever-smiling Shruti is an optimist. “I am positive even during the worst of times. I think life will get better. I'm enthusiastic about everything. I have my dull moments, but thankfully, they're few and far between,” says Shruti, laughing. People, though, don't interest Shruti much. “I like the company of people, but a lot of it tires me out!”

Beauty of any kind inspires her. “Not just beauty that's physical. It could be a quality in a person. Any positive feeling inspires me; people who are good at their work, for instance. They motivate me to achieve my goals.”

The wonderful conversation ends with a discussion on ideas. Shruti's take on it is refreshing. “Any creative person will tell you that ideas are sporadic, they either come or they don't. Stories don't come from inside you, they come from outside!”

For now, Shruti is concentrating on writing her blog. More writing will happen after her daughter grows up a bit. She's waiting for her first written piece, “The Story Lady”, to be published in a few months.
