‘Bujjigadu’s’ Sanjana is on a roll, with four Telugu films coming up
The ravishing Sanjana is excited. Last year she had just Bujjigadu on her hand and suddenly she is finding it difficult shuttling between one film and the other. She is playing the heroine in Samardhudu with Raja, with Dr. Rajashekar in Satyameva Jayate, and with Srikant and Prithiviraj in Police Police. There is also the Kannada film E-Sanjay (This Evening) that launches Sudeep’s cousin Arya as the hero. Talking to MetroPlus, Archana, re-christened as Sanjana, says she is indebted to Puri Jagannath for giving her a role though a brief one in the Prabhas starrer Bujjigadu and people recognise her today in the industry as Bujjigadu’s Sanjana.
Sanjana, currently shooting in Hyderabad, is a workaholic. With four films on hand and no qualms about working on a Sunday, she says, “I don’t party; I wake up early and put on the make-up. I even hit the gym and by the time I reach the hotel, I have no strength to even have a shower. Like the Hyderabad airport, even the Bangalore airport has moved and the distance from the city makes it tough. Travelling takes nearly four to five hours,” complains the actress who lives in Bangalore.
So how does she catch up with her sleep and manage to stay fit despite the hectic schedules? Sanjana puts her phone on the silent mode and has power naps. She exercises two hours for four days a week and keeps her dinner light. “I have a sweet tooth and the minute I look at food I can put on weight,” she guffaws.
One hears that she has been trained in salsa. Is that true? “Well, when I was modelling I learnt salsa but the fact is the girl can’t do it alone. She is just a toy. The guy should know how to handle; he should have the energy, flexibility etc. I haven’t practiced for ages.”
The young actress, a Sindhi, has learnt Telugu remarkably well and soon. Though she finds it tough to comprehend a few words and lyrics, she follows colloquial Telugu. With her dad hailing from Mumbai and her mom from Chennai, Sanjana speaks Hindi and Tamil as well. Gujarati, Punjabi, Marwari and English are the other languages she is comfortable with. Her debut film was Ganda Hendathi in Kannada.
Sanjana was a tomboy in school and a good athlete. She started modelling while in college because she loved the attention, standing tall in a crowd. After that she worked in many commercials, mostly regional. Puri Jagan spotted her in an advertisement with John Abraham and signed her on for her first film in Telugu. She says, “After a period of time, acting is more challenging than modelling and I’m looking forward to more challenges.”Y. SUNITA CHOWDHARY
