Bangles now in a new, chic avatar
Remember when you wore bangles only with saris and salwar suits? Well, times have changed! Bangles now go with almost anything from denims to mini skirts and are back in bigger, funkier avatars. Forget thin bangles and look for big, chunky, colourful ones the next time you go shopping. This is the best way to add that ‘wow’ factor to your look.
By sporting colourful, attractive bangles in bright shades and patterns you can add a much needed dash of colour to drab surroundings. Wear your attitude on your wrists by using these accessories in unusual designs and sizes.
They’re available in metal, plastic, glass, wood and even jute. They give a casual yet, chic look with very little effort.
Bangles are available everywhere in a wide range of designs to suit your budget. “They’re priced from Rs. 10 to around Rs. 150 and are fast selling among youngsters,” according to Shabeer, an employee at an accessory store.
Namitha Correya, a college student, says, “Heavy plastic bangles are hot among our age group. They carry a certain attitude and make a bold style statement. And, of course, single, large bangles are easier to wear than a number of ordinary ones!”
Pair them with denims and a Tee shirt or a casual skirt. Go for plastic or wood bangles in cool black or in cheerful, bright colours for that casual look. Mix and match them according to your attire and mood.
Keep an eye out for unique designs and let your motto be ‘the bigger the better’. For kurtas and colourful ethnic wear, pick wood or jute bangles in traditional designs and colours.
For the evening, try something in metallic colours such as gold and silver in neat, broad designs. Pair them with elegant, simple kurtas in ivory, black or royal purple. Stay away from dangling bangles as they are no longer in vogue.
