The Way I Am

Forget the expletives. Forget the allegations of everything from homophobia to misogynism. Eminem is probably the most misunderstood artiste of all time, and this angst-ridden epic plays a vital part in presenting his side of the story. This might be a magnificent social critique, this might be a way to showcase the frustrations that come with stardom, but this is also rap elevated to art form (“I’m not Mr. N’Sync, I’m not what your friends think, I’m not Mr. Friendly…”). It stands out musically too: this is a brilliant, pulsating track that grabs you and doesn’t let go till the very end.
