Dark Star

The track, over time, spawned many versions. The version on Dead’s live album, Live/Dead (1969), a little over 23 minutes, is my favourite. It fuses diverse styles such as jazz, folk, bluegrass and psychedelia to form a powerful score. Robert Hunter’s lyrics, prosodic and full of imagery, are matched by alternating, blistering lead runs by Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir.
