Dastkar Andhra’s exhibition opens today
Dastkar Andhra, a non-profit organisation working to promote handloom cotton, organises an exhibition from today to August 27 at C. P. Ramaswamy Aiyar Foundation, Mini Hall 1, 1, Eldams Road, 10.30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
You can choose from a range of vibrantly coloured fabrics, dupattas, saris and furnishings. Fabrics with borders, tie and dye, 100s count shirting, gadi checked shirting, striped fabric, lungis, Kuppadam dhotis, bedspreads from the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh form part of the display.
Dastkar Andhra has evolved a method of using natural dyes suitable to the cotton handloom weavers’ production process. The natural dyes programme trains groups of weavers and dyers in different parts of the country in dyeing natural fibres. It has set up traditional indigo dyeing vats in Chinnur, Adilabad, Uravakonda and Anantapur. It has its own dye house in NIRD, Hyderabad.
