Instinct and education help mould one's character. Studies and emulation are part of education. A child tends to emulate elders and that is where stories of heroes and heroines come in handy. A generation ago, grandparents used to hug the children and narrate the tales of Ramayana and The Mahabharata, and it was a great way for a child to grow up. But with grandparents and joint families disappearing fast, schools should set aside at least an hour for story telling.Sundari
