KMS Raja’s art show at the Kasthuri Sreenivasan Art Gallery

“Coimbatore is a patron of Art,” says KMS Raajaa, the artist of the expo currently on at the Kasthuri Sreenivasan Art Gallery on Avanashi Road. This is what brought him back to the cotton city after a year.

With 14 exhibitions to his credit in a span of eight years, he is no novice. The fact that more than 1200 of his paintings have been sold reflects his expertise. With no formal training in the field, Raajaa’s talents seem to be innate. This solo show, the 17th exhibition of the Spectrum series specialises in landscapes. The shades of lush green, orange and yellow have taken up a major portion of the canvasses which soothe the eyes.

Even tiny details find a place in his world of magnificent things. Every ripple of water and every ray of sunshine is depicted by the brilliant strokes of his brush. People tend to connect with the paintings instantly as they are set in the popular locales of Tamil Nadu like Courtallam and Hogenakkal. Though the show is dominated by landscapes, there is also an assortment of modern art and the abstract. The abstract ones dissolve and are left to the perception of the viewer. Having taken his inspiration from his mentor, the artist has mastered both oil and acrylic painting.

However, the artist says that his preference rests with acrylic painting.

It is rare to come by an artist who paints classics and mordernity with equal ease. Raajaa proves to be one such artist. The exhibition is on between 27 and 31 May, between 9.30 a.m and 6.30 p.m. For details contact: 0422-2574110.
