He is the original god of guitar. Eric Clapton, the only three-time inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, is known for his amazing guitar work on iconic numbers such as ‘Cocaine’, ‘Wonderful Tonight’, Tears in Heaven, and ‘Layla’ among others.

Winner of 17 Grammy awards, the 68-year-old has recently released his 20th solo effort, Old Sock , which features Paul McCartney and Steve Winwood as guest performers.

In an email interview the legendary musician talks about the album and the collaboration.

How does it feel to bring out your 20th album?

It feels great, it always feels really good to put your music out there. I’m really happy with this album and I hope that everyone enjoys listening to it as much as I’ve enjoyed making it.

Can you tell us how the album came to be?

Well this whole album is sort of a tour of my life from childhood, the thirties, until now.

You’ll find the songs that I heard while I was growing up along with the songs that I listen to today. It is very emotional as you’ll find several songs dedicated to my family.

Can you tell us about the collaborations with Paul McCartney and Steve Winwood?

I loved working with both of them. I think I’ve always enjoyed working with people who like music as much as you do and who are passionate about it. You can always learn new things from someone who loves music and knows what they’re dong.

How would you describe Old Sock?

I think the whole album is pretty low-key and relaxing, it has got a nice holiday feel to it. And like I said, it’s a musical tour from the thirties till today and I think that sets a nice mood to the whole thing.

Can you tell us about the title?

It’s an interesting story, I actually had someone write into David Bowie’s office to say how much I liked his work and he wrote back saying, “Thanks, old Sock.”. It seemed like a good title and I decided to use it!

Any plans of visiting India?

Not as yet, no. But, I know I have a lot of people there who like listening to my music and I’d love to come by sometime.
