Event Aswaty George takes the stage for her Bharatanatyam debut this weekend
Aswaty George became a part of The Nritya Kaustubha Cultural Society (Yamini School of Dance) in 2004 when she was just in the class I. Since then she has been an avid learner of Bharatanatyam, training under the tutelage of the legendary Yamini Krishnamurti.
Now Aswaty, a student of class IX in St. Paul’s School, becomes the youngest disciple of the doyenne to perform her Bharatanatyam arangetram. Pointing to the seriousness of her pursuit of dance is the fact that Aswaty was awarded the scholarship of the Council for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT) of the Government of India in 2012. This is one of the significant programmes of the Ministry of Culture where children below the age of 14 are selected for their talent and keen interest, as a way of not only of providing financial support but the indication that their hard work in an often little appreciated field is noticed.
