“Ihope that this is the beginning of a movement of sorts,” Sunitha Sarathy said at the release of her new single, ‘Nimmadhi’ at Ashvita Bistro. Sunitha, who debuted as a playback singer with the Tamil film Yei Nee Romba Azhaga Irukkey , becomes an independent musician with this song.

The singer had been mulling over the idea of bringing out a solo single for a while and feels that now is the right time. She has written the lyrics, composed the music, as well as sung the song. “Love is very important. I think it is the need of the hour, what with the present scenario in our country. That’s why I wrote this song. To me, love means finding nimmadhi (peace) and that’s what this song is about,” she said.

Sunitha then launched into a song with singer Chinmayee, who along with other musicians Unnikrishnan, Naresh Iyer, Aalap Raju, Charulatha Mani and Haricharan were present at the event. The duo sang ‘Paadhi kadhal paadhi muththam’ and this was followed by ‘Nimmadhi’. “I took the help of my Tamil teacher from my school to get the words in the song right,” she said. The song is a breezy number without too many embellishments, allowing Sunitha to showcase her voice and range. She closed the evening with the song ‘Kadhal oru butterfly’ and a Mariah Carey number, ‘My all’.

“I would like to see many more singers come out and release songs on their own, and now, with technology and the advancements in the industry, this is possible,” she said. The song ‘Nimmadhi’ is available for download at Rs. 12 on iTunes, Amazon and the Nokia Ovi store.
