Creativity of a lifetime on display
It is simple life that Devilal Patidar tries to draw, paint and sculpt. In a massive exhibition at Kalahita, 18 years of creativity are on show by the artist.
The works don’t create a sense of awe, they don’t even impress you. But they grow on you as you move from one mask to another. And out of the blue there are sculptures which have the finish of smooth moulding. The sculptures appear as if they are inspired by crickets and other insects that are native to central India from where the artist comes from. The can even be sea animals that thrive near the coast.
If the subject is simple enough, the execution is even simpler flowing lines and waterwash techniques help the artist to keep the stuff simple.
See the masks and you see the primitive as well as the possibilities.
