A five-day Thyagaraja music fete was organised at Kalabharathi

Commemorating the 159th vardhanthi of the ever great saint composer Thyagaraja, a five-day music fete was organised in Kalabharathi auditorium last week by the Thyagaraja Aaradhana Trust, in association with its parent body Visakha Music and Dance Academy.Auditorium manager C. Bhaskara Rao took meticulous care making all arrangements including stage decoration aesthetically with an artistic touch.The fete was inaugurated by octogenarian Kalaaprapoorna Baalantrapu Rajanikantha Rao at a grand function with C.S.N. Raju, who is the president of both the bodies, in the chair. Former Telugu professor of Andhra University K. Malayavasini was the guest of honour. In their scholarly speeches they expounded how the steep .rm3000devotion of Thyagaraja for Lord Rama manifested in the shape of countless compositions. The ballet, `Naukacharitam' of Thyagaraja, puja at the Thyagaraja Mandir in the premises of Kalabharathi, `tiruveedhi' around it, Pancharatna Krithi Seva by about 200 participants followed on the second day. As many as 56 recitals marked the next three days. In all 650 artistes of different age groups in and around Visakhapatnam were involved in the fete. The aradhana concluded with the rendering of the krithi, `Geethaardhamu', `Manthrapushpam' and `Mangalahaarathi' by a group of senior artistes on the concluding day.A. RAMANLINGA SASTRY
