SHOP A lot of thought has gone into the Puma Social club
Can sweat pants coexist with hot pants and Gatorade with delicious fruity cocktails? Can sneakers jostle with stilettos and energy bars with delicious chicken nuggets?
At the Puma Social Club they probably can. The club, an offshoot of Puma — the global sport-lifestyle brand, would probably be a perfect place for the Bangalore Hash club to congregate and guzzle beer after pounding the pavements. It manages to merge the sporty with the hip and happening, so effortlessly. In addition, upcycling or the conversion of waste into useful products is a theme that the architects of the club have worked with closely and there are quaint rejoinders of this theme, almost everywhere in the club. The first thing that meets my eyes when I enter the club is an interesting looking machine breathalyzer that checks your alcohol level as you leave the club. So, don’t count on driving home if you’ve drunk too much. Keeping with the Puma spirit, there are also innovative themes all across the landing advocating the need for physical activity—in this case by insisting that one takes the stairs.
The club is spread over three levels, each one bounded by vertical garden. Every level has an interesting melange of upcycled material. From the furniture that is created from waste material like reinforcement rods, cycle parts, discarded furniture to the walls made of scrap metal, ashtrays made of used tapes and coasters of old floppy disks — the novel ways of upcycling waste seems endless.
The piece de la resistance is the Play Machine which looks like pool table and represents the varying interests of its users. It has several items such as a type writer, video game consoles, a harmonium, a view master, a tabla, mounted on it and can be used by multiple users
Quaint, eclectic and full of positive energy, the club is a great place to let your hair down and simply be. And since it stresses on sustainability, frequenting it does make one feel rather virtuous.
The club is located above their flagship Puma Sustainable Show on 100 Ft Road, Indiranagar, Bangalore. Call 080 41227648.
