Forrest Gump

The film set in the 1950s opens with Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) as a child with below average IQ but with a special trait for running very fast, which provides him an entry into the University of Alabama. He later joins the U.S. army during the Vietnam War and subsequently starts a shrimping business with a comrade. Forrest Gump's valour in war fetches him a Medal of Honour and gives him the opportunity to meet up with his childhood love Jenny (Robin Wright). The film won several awards for its sublime reference to contemporary American society and politics that forms part of the storyline.
