On Location ‘Marykkundoru Kunjaadu' narrates the tale of a laidback young man who wants to earn a living the easy way. Vijay George
T he focus is on an isolated, modest, tiled house on a hill at Karimkunnan near Thodupuzha. It is the location of director Shafi's ‘Marykkundoru Kunjaadu,' with Dileep and Bhavana playing the lead.
Cinematographer Shyamdutt goes for an aerial view, mounting the camera atop a huge crane. Some local villagers watching the shooting move out of the field and the director gives the view the green signal before taking a quick break to talk about the film.
“The story unfolds in a remote village and this house is where Solomon (Dileep) lives, with his family. Nicknamed ‘Kunjaadu' (lamb) by all and sundry in the village, Solomon is a timid guy who prefers to steer clear of all trouble. However he nurses dreams of becoming a film director, though his knowledge about the craft is limited,” says Shafi.
Something about Mary
Vinayaprasad plays Mary, Dileep's mother in the film. Mary was supposed to marry Ittychan (Innocent), a moneybags, but it fell through at the last minute. Finally she marries the sexton of the church, played by Vijayaraghavan. A distraught Ittychan names his daughter Mary (Bhavana). Mary and Solomon are childhood buddies.
Ripples of excitement break out among the onlookers as Dileep steps out for a quick interview for a TV channel. “My character is a laidback person who is eager to find some ways to earn a living without undergoing any real hardships in his life. The priest in the nearby church decides to make a TV serial on ‘Snapaka Yohannan' and Solomon starts directing the serial. In between, the shooting gets disrupted when he is attacked by a cow. To make matters worse, none of the TV channels are ready to accept it after watching the pilot episodes,” narrates Dileep.Things take a dramatic turn with the arrival of a stranger, enacted by Biju Menon. Solomon gets the much needed strength and support from him.
“He looks a bit weird, talks little and works really hard. Nobody knows about his whereabouts and that is all I can reveal now,” says Biju Menon, who sports an unkempt look.
