Event Sumathi Ramamohan Rao performed in memory of late Dandamudi Ramamohan Rao.
Master mridangam player and a reputed vidwan, late guru Dandamudi Ramamohan Rao trained innumerable disciples. He was a staff artiste of Vijayawada Akashvani for more than three decades.
Besides accompanying great vidwans of three generations, Dandamudi also published a book consisting of hundreds of muktayis that he composed.
In his memory, his wife, disciple and ace mridangam player Dandamudi Sumathi Ramamohan Rao established the sabha Laya Vedika to provide stage for percussionists.
As part of Swarajhsri Sabha’s monthly programme, Sumathi Ramamohan Rao presented an interesting tala vadya kutcheri titled Sruti Laya Ranjani at Sri Sringeri Peetha Paripalitha Sri Sivaramakrishna Kshetram, Vijayawada.
For the main item in the tala vadya kutcheri, Sumathi herself composed a pallavi Laya Bramha Dandamudiki Neerajanam – Mrdanga Chakravarthi and presented it along with her team consisting of B.V. Durga Bhavani (violin), P. Subbaraya Phalgun (kanjira), M. Haribabu (ghatam), Dandamudi Vani Srilaya, G. Krishna Sai Kausik and Kartik Bhatt (mridangams).
The event also saw the presentation of Sri Maha Ganapathi (in Gowla) and Neekela Dayaradu in Sarasangi and also Bhagyada Lakshmi Baramma of Purandara dasa in Sriragam.
