The ancient temple of Sri Sivakamasundari Ambal samedha Sri Vyagrapureeswarar in Puliyur village will be the venue of Sri Adi Rudra Maha Yagnam to be conducted from March 25 to April 5.

Located on the Nagapattinam-Tiruvarur bus route (a km from the Sikkavalam-Ramar Madam bus stop), two km from the Sikkal Sri Singaravelar temple on north-west direction, Puliyur is also called Dakshina Vyagrapuram. Once prosperous with festivals celebrated round the year, the temple gradually lost its sheen, proximity to the sea shore also playing a role. Restoration of some sort was made in 2007. The Adirudra yagnam is conducted for the welfare of humanity.

On April 5, Panguni Uthiram, Maha Purnahuti will take place and the yagnam will conclude with abishekam.

On all the 11 days, recitation of Vedas and Saiva Thirumurai, besides religious discourses and musical programmes, will take place. Nearly 150 Vedic and Siva aagama scholars will be participating in this Maha Yagnam.

Dr. K. Venkatesan, chief patron of this Maha Yagnam, and chairman, Sri Guru Chandrikananda Samithi, Chennai, has been the guiding spirit behind the mammoth yagnam.
