Navaratri fest

At Sri Vishnu Durgai Amman Temple, Tiruvidaimarudur Circle, Maharajapuram, the 34th year Navaratri fest is being celebrated from September 17. The festival, which began with laksharchanai performed to Sri Maha Ganapathy, concludes on October 6.

Laksharchanai on the concluding day will be followed by Dasakalasa Snapana puja and Sri Durga Suktha Vidhana homam at 8 a.m., maha abishekam at 11.30 a.m. and Sandana kaapu alankaram to the Goddess.

Awards and titles

The 35th year Art festival of Kartik Fine Arts (Ph: 2499 7788), Chennai, will be celebrated from December 1, 2009 to January 1, 2010. The inauguration will be held on Dec. 1, at Narada Gana Sabha, Chennai. Artists from varied fields will be honoured on the occasion.

The following is the list of artists and awards to be conferred during the festival.

Isai Peroli: R.K. Sriram Kumar; Nadana Mamani: Mythily Prakash; Tamil Isai Vendhar: Karaikudi R. Mani; Isai Chudar: D.B. Ashwin; Nathya Chudar: Vaishnavi Sainath.

The following is the list of certificates and prizes to be distributed during the period.

Ranjani Hebbar (Guru Prasad) – D.K. Pattammal Award of Excellence; R.M. Vellaiappan, secretary, Pollachi Tamizh Isai Sangam – Kartik Rajagopal Golden Jubilee Award; Thiruvarur G. Balam – Sirkazhi Govindarajan Memorial Award.

Navachandi Yagnam

Sarada Navaratri Maha Navachandi Yagnam will be performed at Meenakshi Illam, Plot No. 13, 14, Om Sakthi Nagar, Rajajipuram Phase III, Tiruvallur (near Sri Viswaroopa Panchamuga Anjaneya Swami Ashram), on September 27.

Desikan Utsavam

The Nigamantha Maha Desikan Varisheega Utsavam will be celebrated at Sri Venkatesa Perumal Temple, 107 H, B/B Road, Perambur East (Ph: 2551 5666), Chennai, till September 29. The festival was on from September 20.

Donations from devotees are welcome. They may also undertake a day’s expenses (Rs.900) and the cost of a morning thirumanjanam (Rs.600).
