The eleventh year of Saradha Navarathri Vizha will be celebrated at Chennai Om Sri Skandasramam, Mahalakshmi Nagar, Selaiyur, Tambaram, from September 19 to 28 with a Sri Bhuvaneswari Moola Manthra Nava Laksha Homam and Mula Manthra Samputitha Chandi Mahayagnam. Special abhishekam and alankaram to Goddess Matha Bhuvaneswari will be performed on all these days.
On account of the birth centenary of Embar Vijayaraghavachariar, a Harikatha on ‘Kannanin Arpudha Leelaigal,’ will be presented by Kalyanapuram Aaravamudhachariar on September 13, 6.15 p.m. Srimad Mahabharatham, pravachanam by Sundar Kumar will be held from September 16 to 27, daily. The events, organised by Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, will take place at Dr. Nalli Gana Vihar, T. Nagar.
Sri Jayanti fete
Sri Krishna Fine Arts Soceity, Nanganallur, (Ph: 2224 6378/2224 2854), celebrates the 11th Sri Jayanti music festival for five days from September 13, at Varasiddhi Vinayakar Pravachana Mandapam, Hindu Colony, Nanganallur.
The music concerts of Vasundhara Rajagopal, Gayatri Venkatraghavan, Mambalam Sisters, Madurai T.N. Seshagopalan and Trichur V. Ramachandran will take place during the period.
The last day’s concert is dedicated to GNB. Prior to the concert, K.S. Kalidas will deliver a speech on ‘GNB – The man and his music.’
The five-day festival will be inaugurated by P. Ramabhadran and S. Satyanarayanan, Sri Chakra Hospital, will distribute prizes to the winners in the music competitions conducted by the Society.
Guru sishya series
The annual guru sishya series of Hamsadhwani is being celebrated from September 5 at Youth Hostel, Indira Nagar, Adyar.
Three programmes will be presented in this series and the gurus will be honoured when their disciples perform.
The gurus to be honoured are P.S.Narayanaswamy with disciple Akshay Padmanabhan whose vocal concert will take place on September 11 and Suguna Purushothaman on September 19 when she presents her disciples in a thematic Navarathri event.

Tribute to MS
Nada Sudha celebrates the 93rd birth anniversary of M.S. Subbulakshmi on September 13, 6.30 p.m. at Puratchi Thalaivi Doctor Jayalalitha Tirumana Mandapam, Kannagi Street, Kamaraj Nagar, Velacheri.

To commemorate GNB Birth centenary year, Mudhra has organised a music competition for students in the age group 14-20 years. The participants will have to submit a list of six songs (two of G.N. Balasubramaniam’s compositions and four of any other composer). The competition will be held on October 4, at Ramakrishna Mission School premises, 71, Bazullah Road, T. Nagar.
