This weekend – a two-day Sangeet Samaroh and a book on Pandit Bhimsen Joshi

Rajguru Smruti and Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal, Pune, present Sangeet Samaroh on March 13 and 14, 2010 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Race Course Road, Bangalore.

On the first day of the festival, March 13, the programme will also see the release of a compilation of articles on Pandit Bhimsen Joshi by Aravind Mulgund, “Bharatharatna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi”.

Various articles that have been written on the Kirana maestro have been put together in this book. Pandit Bhimsen Joshi is considered the leading light of the Kirana gharana and is renowned for his unique style and mastery over ragas. It will be released by Minister Suresh Kumar. The book release will be followed by a CD release of Koushik Ithal. This will be released by the Bharatidevi Rajguru, wife of late Pandit Basavaraj Rajguru.

On 13 {+t} {+h} evening there will be two vocal recitals — by Srinivas Joshi, son of Pandit Bhimsen Joshi and Arati Ankalikar Tekekar. On 14 {+t} {+h} morning, 10 a.m. there will be vocal recital by Parameshwar Hegde, followed by a dhrupad recital by Umakanth and Ramakanth Gundecha. At 6 p.m., there will be a sarod recital by Partho Sarathy and vocal recital by Srikanth Deshpande.
