Danseuses Shobana and Jayaprabha Menon will ensure that the Mudra festival 2009 is in step with the aim of the festival, which seeks to promote the classical dances of India. Conducted by the Vylloppilly Samskriti under the Department of Culture, the festival, which begins on September 16, will feature a Mohiniyattam performance by Jayaprabha Menon and a Bharatanatyam recital by Shobana at Vylloppilly Samskriti Bhavan on the first day of the festival.
Two dance performances will be held every day, at 6.15 p.m. and at 7.30 p.m. Stalwarts in different schools and styles of dance will hold lecture demonstrations (at 10.30 a.m. and at 2 p.m.) on the sidelines of the festival.
Veteran Lakshmanaswamy’s lecture-demonstrations will be held on all the days of the fete. His first class will be at 2 p.m. on September 16. Sadanam Harikumar’s lecture-demonstration will be on September 18 (10.30 a.m.) while Prerana Sreemali’s is on September 19.
Margi Madhu’s Koodiyattam performance on September 17 will be followed by a Bharatanatyam recital by Savitha Sasthri. On September 18, Prerana Sreemali (Kathak) and Deepika Reddy (Kuchipudi) will enthral the audience. September 19 will feature Meera Das (Odissi) and Padmaja Suresh (Bharatanatyam). The festival will conclude with the performances of Aiswaraya Warrier (Mohiniyattam) and Rajasree Warrier (Bharatanatyam).
