Concert All India Radio artists performed at Sri Sringeri Sankara Mutt on the day of Vijayadasami.
O n Vijayadasami Day, music reverberated at the open airauditorium of Sri Sringeri Sankara Mutt, Srirangam.
All India Radio artists, Sivakumar (veena), Mukyaprana (flute), Madhav (violin), Madhvaprasad and Srinivasan (mridangam), Krishna (ghatam) and Raghu (morsing) offered ‘Vadhya Vrindam', a programme, the first of its kind being held at the Mutt.
It began with a Hamsadhvani varnam and the team sailed sweetly into Nattai (‘Mahaganapathim') and Sri (‘Entharo Mahanubhavulu') and traversed melodiously in Bowli (‘Sriman Narayana').
The well extended Hemavathi (‘Sri Kanthimathi') with vibrant sargams, niravals and apt swaras and the captivating Sriranjani (‘Sarasudha') and Ganamurthy (‘Ganamurthy') enthralled the audience.
The rollicking thani of the accompanying artistes, Srinivasan and Madhvaprasad Krishna and Raghu was fabulous and added verve to this ‘vadhya vrindam,' a rarity on concert platforms.
The recital had a sweet ending with the rendering of Rajaji's ‘Kurai Onrumillai' in Sivaranjini and a fast Lalgudi tillana in raga Revathi.
V.R.Ravi, the chief guest, offered felicitations and Sri Sringeri SankaraMutt Dharmadhikari, T.S.Rengarajan, proposed a vote of thanks.
