Duddu Radhika is a prominent Carnatic vocalist, blessed with mellifluous vocal culture and an ability to sing with Sahitya Suddha. She is postgraduate in music and B-High artiste of All India Radio. She got the idea of filling the void of Pancharatna kirtanas that Thyagaraja rendered beyond his Ghanaraga Pancharatnas. Thyagaraja had composed other kirtanas on Sri Ranganatha swamy of Srirangam, called ‘Sriranga Pancharatnas’; Sri Tripura Sundari of Tiruvvottiyur, known as ‘Tiruvottiyur Pancharatnas’; ‘Srimati Tapas Thirthyam of Lalgudi, called Lalgudi Pancharnas; on Sri Sundareswara of Kovur called ‘Kovuru Pancharatnas’ and on Sage Narada ‘Narada Pancharatnas’. The present set of thematic audio CDs launched by Radhika comprise ‘Sriranga Pancharatnas’, ‘Tiruvottiyur Pancharatnas’ and ‘Narada Pancharatnas’. She now plans to make CDs of other two Pancharatna sets on Lalgudi Pancharatnas on Pravruthi Jagadamba and Kovuru ‘Sundareswara’ soon.
Narada Pancharatna CD carries krities ‘Sri Narada’ in Kaanada; ‘Varanarada’ in Vijayasri, Adi; ‘Narada Guruswami’ in Dubar, Adi; ‘Narada Muni’ in Pantuvarali, Rupakam and ‘Sri Naradamuni’ in Bhairavi, Adi talam.
Sriranga Pancharatnas CD has ‘Vinarada Naamanavi’ in Devagandhari, Adi talam; ‘Raju Vedale’ in Thodi, Roopakam; Chootamu Rare’ in Arabhi, Roopakam; ‘Karunajoodavayya’ in Saranga, Adi and ‘O Rangasayi’ in Kambhoji Adi talam.
Tiruvattiyur Pancharanas on Tripura Sundari are ‘Sundari Ninu’ in Arabhi, Misrachapu talam; ‘Kannatalli Neevu’ in Saveri, ‘Sundari Nannindarilo’ in Begada, roopaka talam; ‘Sundari Nee Divya’ in Kalyani Adi and ‘Darini Telusukonti’ in Suddhasaveri, Adi.
Those who listen to each of these CDs get the feeling that they have heard a concert, for she choses apt numbers for ragalapana, neraval and swarakalpana distributed across numbers.
The CDs were released at a function held at Ravindra Bharati’s Conference Hall recently during Kartikeya Gana Sabha's Annual festival.
