A day-long Maha Rudra japam at Sri Dharmanadeswara Siva Temple, Mondakolathur, will be held on July 19. Around 125 vedic scholars will assemble to perform the japam. The event has been organised by educationists M.S. Visweswaran and M.R. Thyagarajan.

Mondakolathur, Polur Taluk, Tiruvannamalai District, has been the fountainhead for Vedic studies and scholars.

Pandit Mahamahopadyaya Chinnaswami Sastrigal of Benaras Hindu University, his brother Ramanna at Tirupati Devastanam and M. Pathanjali Sastrigal, chief justice of India, revived Sanskrit scholarship and vedic studies all over India. Athi Rudra Japa Yagna parayanam has been a regular annual ritual in this temple town.
