This is with reference to the article, ‘An angel called Charlie Chaplin (Friday Review, July 3). Most of the comic genuis’ movies were silent, including ‘The Gold Rush’ and ‘The Tramp.’ His last talking film, ‘Monsieur Verdu’, was a mammoth production and went on to become a runaway hit. In the end of the film, Monsieur is sentenced to death. Just before he is hanged, a priest prays for him saying, “May God Bless You!” Chaplin immediately replies, “Why not? I am His.”
It is an undeniable fact that Chaplin was the king of comedy of the last century.
