Buoyant beginningRey Kumarappa's short, `Kanavu Thozhirchaalai,' gave us a glimpse of the maker's potential. Now his first feature with Harikumar (`Thoothukkudi's hero), whom he describes as a "thorough professional," is all set to take off. "Not many first time directors will get such a sincere hero to work with. He's a source of moral support for me. I'm lucky," adds a beaming Kumarappa. Ask him about the story and his reply is: "Ills in society are not just because of criminals, but because of the inaction of the so-called upright lot. That's the crux, in a line."
Racing aheadYou've watched car and bike races on screen. For the first time, `Oram Po,' directed by the first husband-wife team of Pushkar and Gayatri, will showcase an auto race for viewers. Such races do take place often in the city, you are told. Incidentally, the film had been named `Auto' earlier. Arya and Puja form the lead pair of `Oram Po.' Shooting is over and post-production work is going on, according to the film's publicity unit. G. V. Prakash who made an impressive debut with `Veyyil' is `Oram Po's composer.
Sounds interesting"This will be among my best films," said Parthiban after listening to the story of `Ammuvaagiya Naan,' being directed by Padma Magan. (His earlier venture was `Pallavan.') Promising to be a very different film for actor-director Parthiban, `Ammu _' will have him playing a writer. Pitted against him in another strong role is heroine and debutant Bharati. The team looks interesting _ Sabesh-Murali whose talent came to the fore in films such as `Thavamaai Thavamirundhu' are the composers. And M.S. Prabhu, who had cranked the camera for `Thavamai _' is at it once again for `Ammu .'
