Achievement Two Malayalam plays get nominated in different categories of META 2013.

Two plays from Kerala have been nominated in various categories for the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META), 2013. The Awards, which will be held in the first week of March in New Delhi, aims at encouraging all forms of theatre.

From the 10 nominations, two are Malayalam – ‘Kizhavanum Kadalum’ directed by Sasidharan Naduvil (Rememberance Theatre) and ‘After the Silence’ by Martin John (Sadhna – Centre for Creative Practice). Both the directors are from Thrissur.

‘Kizhavanum Kadalum’, an adaptation of Hemingway’s ‘Old Man and the Sea’ has been nominated for the best play, best director, best actor (male lead, P.T. Manoj), best supporting actor (male, Hrithik Srikumar), best stage design (Samkutty Pattimkari) and best lighting director (Jose Koshy). Sasidharan Naduvil is a practising theatre person for the past 20 years.

‘After the Silence’ has won nominations for the best play and director, best actor (female lead, Valeria Olguin), best lighting director (Jose Koshy) and sound design (Claudia Clavija).

Martin John is a graduate of the School of Drama.

META is one of the premier awards of Indian theatre, which promotes the different elements of theatre such as playwriting, set design, costume and light design, direction and performance. Instituted by the Mahindra Group, META 2013 aims at celebrating the best of theatre in 2012. The awards consists of a trophy and a cheque of Rs.100,000 for the best production, Rs.75,000 for best original playwright and Rs.45,000 for all other awards in different categories.
