H omage was paid to S.M.George, founder of the Kalai Kaviri School of Fine Arts, recently at the National College, Tiruchi.

The second death anniversary of Father George was marked by tributes that extolled his service to the promotion of art and culture.

Speakers recalled on how he used art as a vehicle for communal integration. Sarubala R. Tondaiman, former Mayor, presided and K. Ragunathan, secretary, National College, released a profile of Father George.

R. Kalaikovan, director, M. Rajamanickanar Research Centre; A. K. Yussouf, president, Thirukkural Peravai and P. Gnanadurai Michael, social activist, underlined the ‘Kalaikkaavalar' s cultural attempts to bridge people of diverse faiths.

Father George would always be remembered for taking fine arts to marginalised sections of society, they said.

‘Kalai Anjali' a cultural tribute was staged.
