Zakir Hussain believes in keeping it simple and straight in every facet of dance, except one -- his costume. He simply does not know where to stop. Does he think that the rasika can visualise the God (Lord Padmanabha) better in an overdressed dancer? Isn't Bharatanatyam an art of suggestion? Ask him why he was dressed in a multi-coloured costume of bright yellow, pink and green and decked with diamonds, and he replies nonchalantly, “Don't other dancers have their unique style? This is my style. Someone once told me after a performance that because I was ‘glittering’ so much, they couldn’t take their eyes off me!”
