Yash's biggest release yet

Googly , the latest release of actor Yash, is turning out to be the biggest release of his career. Yash’s career graph has only moved upwards in the last three years. All his films since Kirataka have had a decent run at the box office. Anticipating this growth and turning it to mutual advantage is Sandalwood’s biggest distributor and producer Jayanna. Googly is the third film produced by Jayanna with Yash in the lead in the last two years after Jaanu and Drama . Not surprisingly, Yash is doing two more films with the producer; the ongoing Gajakesari and the yet to be titled film that starts later this year.

Googly has fetched the highest satellite telecast rights for any of his films. According to Jayanna, the rights have been sold for Rs. 2 crore, which makes Yash an A-lister in the industry. Googly will be released in more than 100 screens simultaneously. Googly is directed by Pavan Wadeyar.

It is raining cars and bikes

In the last couple of days, hardly a day has passed without reports of a Sandalwood star getting his hand on a new luxury bike or car. Last month, there were reports of Shiva Rajkumar and actress Aindrita Ray picking up new cars. But July seems to be the season of luxury transport. First there was news about Sudeep and Darshan getting themselves new Harley Davidson bikes. While Sudeep bought one for himself, Darshan got the Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic as a gift from the five producers of his latest hit Bulbul . His industry friends had produced the film and apart from the remuneration, showed their love and gratitude with this gift. Sudeep also gifted a Hoysong bike to actor Chiranjeevi Sarja. Days ago, it was the turn of producer Raghavendra Rajkumar to gift himself a Land Rover Freelander 2, a luxury SUV. Finally, it is the turn of actor Srinagara Kitty to get a gift. Producer-director Suni (of Simple aag Ond Love Story fame, in which Kitty did a guest role) presented the actor a Volvo XC60 D5 car.

Basavanna, another controversy

Upendra’s latest film Basavanna , is running into a series of controversies, even before a single scene for the film is shot. When the film was announced, it was said to be about a rowdy and there was opposition from some quarters for naming it Basavanna, the 12th Century social reformer and saint. But all hell broke loose when the ‘first look’ of the film was released. It showed a part of a saintly man seated in a yoga pose. It looked like the image of Lord Shiva. The face was not seen, but a pistol lay at the side. After angry comments by the public, the poster was withdrawn. On Monday, the film team got into another trouble when they released two other poster designs. In this one, Upendra is shown holding a sword with a face in rage. However, it is his costume that has raised eyebrows. Producer C.R. Mohan clarifies that the film is like Om which was directed by Upendra nearly 20 years ago.
