Lewis Pugh plunges into the freezing Arctic Ocean and swims a kilometre across Antarctica wearing nothing but a speedo and a swim cap, a feat never thought possible. How can his body cope with these conditions for so long? And why would anyone want to do such a crazy thing. “Ice Man Journey of the Human Polar Bear” follows Lewis as he swims to draw attention to the oceans and raise awareness about climate change, and documents the extraordinary psychological and physiological journey of Lewis’ long-distance swims in the freezing waters of both the South and North Pole.

Watch “Ice Man Journey of the Human Polar Bear” at 9 p.m. on Monday, January 21, on Discovery HDWorld.
